FAQ
Frequently asked questions about our range of Tree Shears.
What size Tree Shear will fit my excavator?
What size Tree Shear will fit my excavator?
When determining what size tree shear is best for your excavator - Taskpower strongly recommends going by manufacturer recommendations.
Weight is a major consideration - much more important than hydraulic capacity. You need to consider for the weight of the cut material, not just the weight of the attachment. Tree shears are also mounted beyond the tip of the bucket, so even if your excavator has a high breakout force, it won't neccesarily handle a tree shear easily.

Do I require a rotator on my tree shear?
Do I require a rotator on my tree shear?
Some form of positioning is highly recommended on a tree shear.
This question is best answered by; do you have a form of tilt hitch? (Ram tilt / helical tilt / tiltrotator). If the answer is Yes, then you probably don't require a rotator.
Alternatively, Taskpower supplies some of its tree shears with an inbuilt worm drive rotator system. Contact us to discuss in more detail.
Why should I buy a tree shear, not a grapple saw?
Why should I buy a tree shear, not a grapple saw?
Tree shears are a much simpler tool than a grapple saw. With just a large knife and hydraulic cylinder, ongoing maintenance is minimal, and the risk of damage is very low.
Grapple saws still have their place, as they can generally cut higher diameter timber than a tree shear. However, they are much higher maintenance, and more susceptible to damage. They are also much more expensive to set up on the excavator, with their complex hydraulics and electric-over-hydraulic systems.
What are the requirements for my excavator to run a tree shear?
What are the requirements for my excavator to run a tree shear?
Taskpower's tree shears are normally straightforward to fit to your excavator - no case drain is required, and non rotating models only require 1-supply and 1-return. The requirements to run a tree shear will depend on which tree shear you ultimately chose.
